Acid Reflux and Gerd

Indigestion in the digestive tract leads to Acid Reflux and Gerd. Both are different conditions but symptoms are the same.

Difference between Acid Reflux and Gerd:

Most of people consider Acid reflux and Gerd to same but they are wrong. In both conditions, the symptoms are mostly the same but the sereneness of the disease makes a great difference between the two conditions.

Acid reflux is a condition in which the acid produced in the stomach refluxes back through the tube is known as the esophagus.

Gerd is known as the gastroesophageal disease is more severe than the acid reflux. It happens two or three times a week and the burning sensation due to acid reflux is more severe and intolerable.

Our digestive tract is designed in a way to digest the food and absorb all nutrients in a step by step process.

The most initial part is of passing the food from the esophagus to the stomach where the food mixed with the stomach acids to breakdown the food.

When the stomach is unable to digest the food properly it produces more acid and the quality of acid increased in the stomach causes acid reflexes that is the stomach throwback the acid back to the mouth through the esophagus.

Acid reflux is an irritating process and can occur anytime during life. There are some signs that lead us to the diagnosis of this condition they can be:

  • Heartburn
  • The sour liquid in the mouth
  • Chest pain
  • Hunger pains
  • Disturbance in sleep due to night reflux

All these symptoms are the indications towards acid reflux and they can lead it to the Gerd if not treated on time.

There are multiple factors involved in creating a condition like acid reflux and Gerd.

Most of the time these things happen due to lack of attention towards the demands of the body. some of the causes can be:

  • No proper eating habits
  • Consumption of junk food and fizzy drinks
  • Lack of mobility
  • Insulin resistance
  • Obesity
  • Intolerable to proteins digestion

How to diagnose:

When the signs appear of the condition of acid reflux and Gerd its better to consult with the doctor for the diagnosis and treatment, otherwise the condition can get severe and will lead to long term irritation. The doctors will go for several processes for the diagnosis they can be:

  • Endoscopy
  • Probe test
  • Esophageal manometry
  • X-Ray

Available Treatments:

Once the condition gets diagnosed by the doctor through the above-mentioned procedure, then the doctor will go for the treatment.

There are medications available for the Gerd and they have to be taken for the long term and for the acid reflux treatment can be short and effective. The treatments may include:

  • Medicines for less acid production
  • For soothing the heartburn
  • Medicines to make digestion easy and to stop hunger pains
  • To take care of the lower esophagus

All these medications are helpful in the treatment of these painful diseases
